FAQs

We do provide an online explanation of our content management system and have a general explanation of our administrator panel in our online manual: www.training.datumconnect.co.nz (we are currently working on the completion of this manual.) In addition we are happy to answer your questions while you are making changes to the website via our phone support or submitting an online support ticket (free). We can also make changes for you if the changes become more complex at our hourly rate. We do not provide an operation manual that is specific to your website.

We generally list prices inclusive of GST for the following reasons:

• The shopping cart does not add GST at the check out
• This is the common way of displaying prices in online shops, website users are used to it
• This is clearer for customers
• Not many of our customers ship to overseas locations

No GST has to be added for overseas shipments, see IRD.

Web central will work on mozilla firefox and macs but you cannot use the "word editor". For this reason we recommend using Internet explorer.

Webcentral is best used on Internet Explorer. This is because the "word editor" is a microsoft product and does not work with firefox or mac software.

Due to your proposal only being for a set amount of pages there is an additional cost if you want extra pages.

For each page it will cost $150+GST if you want us to add the data
OR $100+GST if you are able to add the data in.

When you send images to Datum Connect to be included in your website you want to keep the following in mind:

• Images for websites do not need to have the same high resolution as are required for print.
• We can enlarge images but they will become blurry
• We can reduce the size of your images easily, so if in doubt send us the bigger images
• We can scan images for you, but the number of images that we can scan for you is limited due to the amount of work involved. We are happy to scan more images if you require this at an additional charge.
• For a product database or shopping cart your images will look best if they are all the same size and dimensions.

When you send us images, we prefer the following:

• .jpg format
• The largest dimension (width or height) of the image size is between 600 and 800 pixels

Unfortunately our license for royalty free stock photos do not allow us to use them for anything but for displaying in customers websites.

We are not allowed to give the images to our customers to use on other products or print.

We buy our images from www.inmagine.co.nz

You may be able to find and buy the image seperately. Alternatively you may find other images you wish to use.

Datum Connect has many royalty free stock photo's available that we can use for our projects. You are more than welcome to come in and browse our library to find the right images for your project.

If you still can't find the image that is right for you, you can search for a photo or photo CD yourself on the internet. There are some free stock photo sites available. You will generally have to send a quick note explaining for what purpose you will use the photo, in return for using the photo. A free stock photo site we use is:

If you are planning on using photo's more often for promotional material you might want to invest in a stock photo CD that is specific to your business. A good place to find a CD is:

If you provide an image to Datum Connect we assume that you have permission to use the image.

Please note:

• Datum stock images can not be used for other promotional material or advertising by the customer, without paying for the license to use the photo's themselves.
• "Royalty free" means that you pay for a photo once and than are allowed to use it as often as you want
• Photo CDs and Royalty photos are used around the world, so if you are looking for something that is going to be part of your unique branding you should not use this type of images.
• If you want to  be sure, always read the "Terms and Conditions" on a website that you get the photos from.

The pricing for the advertisements depends directly on the traffic to your website.  To get a better understanding we would advice you to contact some of our clients who are using banner advertisement on their websites.

Questions relating to Website secuirity and email hosting services.

• Microsoft security patches are updated regularly on our Internet and database servers. All our servers are hosting using Microsoft Windows server 2000.
• Only the basic required ports are open i.e. 80, 110, 5. 443. Therefore any viruses that require other ports will not effect our servers.
• Our email servers have anit-virus software that scans for viruses which gets updated automatically.

• Backups are taken every day and stored securely on separate computers.
• The web servers are clusted that allows one server to run if another is down.
• We encourage our customers to delete any suspicous emails.

In order to anchor a page you need to do the following steps

1. Type in the texts
2. Highlight the texts to link to and click on Insert / Edit anchor, choose a name for your anchor.
3. Highlight the texts to link from and click on Insert / Edit link, under "link type" choose "link to anchors in the text" and look for the anchor name that you have typed in the previous step.

Once downloaded follow these steps:

1. Open the required document
2. Select "File" and "Print"
3. Select "Primo PDF" as your printer name
4. Click OK
5. Name PDF file and Save

Datum Connect hosting: The minimum hosting is 12months.

You can host elsewhere after this period.

We can give customers a copy of the website but it will only be for the static pages, for example homepage, about us page, contact us page etc. We also supply all the data we have on file. Any forms or shopping carts etc will have to be redeveloped by the new hosting facility. Most shopping carts in the market are also hosted in such a way it is not transferable.

We charge between $80 to $120 an hour + GST depending on how much work is involved and how complex the work is. The standard procedure is that when something needs to be done,  we will provide with a quote and, upon client agreeing to the price, we will then commence the work.
